Better health for mothers and children.
Forging Collaborations
MICYRN is facilitating multijurisdictional research by addressing national and international barriers to collaboration in order to achieve efficiencies and optimize the investment in research. This work, combine with efforts to exchange ideas and innovations, is helping the Network achieve its Vision and Mission.
Vision
Better health for mothers and children.
Mission
Catalyzing advances in maternal and child healthcare by connecting minds and removing barriers to high-quality health research.
The Maternal Infant Child and Youth Research Network (MICYRN) is a federal not-for-profit, charitable organization founded in 2006 to build capacity for high-quality applied health research in maternal and pediatric health. It now links 21 maternal and child health research organizations based at academic health centres in Canada; is affiliated with more than 25 practice-based research networks; of investigators from across teaching hospitals affiliated with the 17 medical schools in Canada.
A large amount of research is conducted by teams with investigators based at multiple sites across Canada. Often these groups work independently, in silos, but deal with similar issues and face barriers to conducting multi-jurisdictional research. MICYRN is working to address these challenges.
MICYRN is unique in the world for this type of collaborative engagement. Working together in a coordinated fashion enables the sharing of innovations and reduces duplication of effort and resource use, which means more funds can be spent on doing research.
MICYRN’s principal role is to improve the quality and impact of research in maternal and pediatric health through the provision of a coordinated infrastructure to support research teams working across Canada and beyond.
